 Tel-A-Story

Tel-A-Story®

This new ministry should be in place in January 2009

(we need several more volunteers-contact the office)

CEF of Washington is happy to announce an expanded Tel-A-Story ministry to reach more children. Tel-A-Story is a phone call-in program where anyone can hear a Bible story, or a modern day situation with Christian values and answers.

CEF has been operating various local Tel-A-Story phones, but many children can't access the story without dialing long distance. This new system we're excited about will use an 800 number.

a computer will change the stories every day, to encourage children to call back daily. For some kids this will be their only "Christian" contact/teaching.

Lastly the new system will provide for immediate contact with a "live" volunteer. At the end of the story the announcer will invite anyone wanting to accept Christ to make contact by pushing a button (phone digit). Currently some systems have the person hang up and dial another number, and in some areas there is no one available at all.

The volunteers will have a simple script to follow and CEF will provide training. When someone indicates that they want to accept Christ by pushing the button, the call is forwarded to a volunteer's phone. Volunteers will be asked to set aside 2-4 hours per week to be near their phone (land line). Their schedule is programmed into the computer, so they will be "on call" the same hours each week. (It will be possible to change hours, or be removed.)

You can see that this is an ambitious project! but we believe it will reach many children, and even some adults. Phones are very non-threatening.

Please help us! we need:

bullet

faithful pray-ers for the set-up, volunteers, and the callers

bullet

volunteers to be trained to answer the phones

bullet

financial support

If you want to be involved in this, please let us know! We are setting up regional meetings to speak to individuals about helping out. Contact Heather Ewald 425-587-1259 by phone or email roger.heather@yahoo.com   to attend or host an introductory meeting. Donations can be sent to: Child Evangelism Fellowship at the  address at the top of this page, marked for the new Tel-A-Story ministry.
